ENPOWER – The footprints stretched along with the electricity lines

The North-South electricity line is still running from urban to rural, from city to village and increasingly extending to every corner, alley and remote areas. Electricity has also helped people live better, develop the people’s life and the country’s economy. And one of the companies contributing to the transmission of electricity is Power Engineering Systems Joint Stock Company (ENPOWER).

Established since 2009, ENPOWER has 10 years of construction and development. ENPOWER engineers has gone through the length of the country, following the flow of electricity from plants to every household and village. Each project is a story of experience as well as sharing of professional knowledge for operating engineers. After 10 years of operation, ENPOWER has marked in almost 63 provinces and cities of the country. In each province and city, there is a project that ENPOWER engineers participated in to contribute to stabilizing the electricity grid, providing enough electricity for people, even in remote areas.

In many projects that ENPOWER has already done, the project of supplying secondary equipment and materials for 220kV Ngu Hanh Son substation has a special impression. According to EVN leaders, with the special importance of the 2017 APEC Summit in Da Nang, EVN has directed units to develop plans and invest in many electrical projects to serve this important conference. Therefore, completing 220kV Ngu Hanh Son substation with 220/110kV transformer capacity of 250MVA which directly supplying electricity to Ngu Hanh Son district – where having APEC 2017 activities was very urgent and important.

With the importance of the project, many contractors have participated in the bidding to wish an opportunity to sign a contract and contribute to the country. The process of selecting a contractor is very serious, with 5 contractors buying the documents but only 2 contractors are qualified to pass the technical round. With a better technical solution, ENPOWER offered the price of VND 22 billion while the competitor offered VND 35 billion. Obviously, ENPOWER’s solution has saved VND 13 billion for the state.

During the project implementation, there are certain advantages but also difficulties. After 9 months of implementation, the project was ready to be put into operation. And the biggest difficulty came when preparing to cut off electricity to connect: EVN faced the local people’s opposition where the power cut off. Although EVN has clearly informed about the power cut to connect Ngu Hanh Son 220kV substation, people still came to protest the power cut because it affected business and directly affects the lives of many people in the area, especially tourism hotels.

It must be added that this power system is quite complicated. Besides technical issues, this is a very old substation needing renovating to fit new equipment. EVN’s electricity cut plan is in 24 hours to connect completely. It is a challenge for ENPOWER engineers on the one hand to race against the time and one hand to face the pressure of stretching the grid that soon. It required ENPOWER engineers to be very careful not to cause widespread power cut. Not afraid of difficulties, ENPOWER has joined with EVN to reduce the cut-off time from 24 hours to 18 hours, which means that it was 6 hours ahead of schedule. This was a good achievement of the Project Management Unit in general and of ENPOWER in particular, thereby clearing the objections of people before Da Nang power company. 18 hours of working time is a special experience for all ENPOWER engineers. ENPOWER engineers all rejoiced and were happy to see the electricity being lit up in Da Nang again.

ENPOWER also has many memories and lots of fun when completing projects. The project equipping 10 grid control centers for 10 Northern provinces helped operation units and dispatching units operate equipment remotely without performing at substations, reduce electricity outages for people and optimize grid operation costs.

The projects needing high speed such as Vinh Hao and Binh Thuan projects which ENPOWER acted as the general contractor for the station and power line with the project capacity of 50MW, providing an additional 50 MW of clean energy to the power grid. ENPOWER also completed the project in 4 months.

With the footprints on every journey, ENPOWER engineers hope to bring electricity to many remote areas where there is a desire for electric light to help people life more warm and happy. All ENPOWER engineers always take it as the goal of striving for their work. With long-term goals and strategies ENPOWER continues to place footprints on new projects so that those footprints will not only cover all of Vietnam’s provinces and cities but also reach the world. All for providing right, sufficient and safe electricity for people and society.
